college football • LSU football coach Les Miles has a new seven-year contract that pays him a $4.3 million annual salary and keeps him in Tiger Stadium through the 2019 season. The university's Board of Supervisors backed the contract extension Friday, giving Miles a $549,000 — or 15 percent — increase. Miles has an 85-21 record in eight seasons at LSU.

• New Mexico State has dropped the interim tag for coach Doug Martin, who was promoted from offensive coordinator last week when after DeWayne Walker stepped down to take a position with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

U.S. leads Brazil 2-0 in Davis Cup

Tennis • Sam Querrey and John Isner delivered straight-sets victories as the U.S. took a 2-0 lead on Brazil in a first-round Davis Cup matchup. Querrey, ranked No. 20, breezed past No. 36 Thomaz Bellucci 6-3, 6-4, 6-4. No. 16 Isner defeated No. 145 Thiago Alves 6-3, 7-6 (7-4), 6-3.
