State colleges: Utah ski team stays in lead at New Mexico Invitational

The University of Utah ski team holds the lead after the second day of the New Mexico Invitational in Red River, N.M. With a score of 457, the Utes lead second-place Colorado by 27 points. Miles Havlick led Utah's Nordic team to a win in the 10K freestyle race.

For the women, Rose Kemp finished third — her fourth career podium finish. She led the women's team to a third-place finish in the 10K freestyle race.

Track and field

The Utes won three titles at the Bronco Classic in Boise, Idaho. Angela Kaplar won in the hurdles in about 8.75 seconds, but a technical timing error prevented her official time from being recorded.

Klaudia Rokossa finished first in pole vault after clearing 12 feet, 5.00 inches, and the 4x400 team took first, edging out Utah State with a time of 3:50.46 to the Aggies' 3:51.79. Utah State's Jodi Williams took first in the women's high jump with a mark of 5-08.75.

For the men, Allah Laryea-Akrong from Utah Valley won the 60-meter dash with a time of 6.76 and the 200 meters in 21.18.

Utah State's Kade Jensen won the 3,000 meters with a time of 8:43.24, and the Aggie men won the 4x400 relay in 3:20.02. Travis Johnson won the triple jump for USU at 46-05.25.

At the Mountain States Games in Pocatello, Idaho, Utes Anneli Stahl, Cynthia Sanchez and Aoife Hickey went 1-2-3 in the weight throw.

Weber State had four men finish first in their events: SynhJohn Lilly won the 60 meters with a time of 6.93 seconds; Kurt Ward took first in the mile in 4:17.67; Mike Hardy won the 3,000 meters in 8:19.15; Tyler Burns clinched the high jump win with a mark of 6-08.75.

For the Wildcat women, Jamie Stokes won the 800 meters in 2:17.37, and Katy Hufford won the long jump with a mark of 18-00.25.

Softball

SLCC won both its games on Saturday in Yuma, Ariz., beating Golden West Community College 7-5 and then topping Arizona Western 4-0. The No. 1-ranked Bruins have now won four games in a row. Against GWCC, sophomore Maddy Woodards recorded four RBIs. Sophomore MaCauley Flint had 15 strikeouts in the shutout of AWCC.

Women's tennis

SUU 9, Dixie State 0 • The Thunderbirds routed the Red Storm in St. George, dropping only 15 games. Veronika Rogova, Olya Kunz and Alex Ivanova each won in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0, in their singles matches.

Men's tennis

BYU 6, Air Force 1 • The Cougars beat the Falcons in Provo to improve to 3-0 at home. Two singles victories came in straight sets for No. 48 BYU, as Francis Sargeant won 6-1, 6-2, and Andrey Goryachokov won 6-1, 6-1.
