Gay Scouts

Re "Half measure: Boy Scouts should grant full equality" (Our View, Feb. 4):

I am not surprised that The Trib supports openly gay Boy Scout leaders and boys, given its long history of supporting pro-gay policies. But the editors make weak arguments and ignore important principles.

The Trib's main argument is that times are changing. In fact, "but times have changed" was used. So was "the new norm," as if any change considered more normal is automatically acceptable.

My favorite was "simple fairness." You know, like asking some of us to pay more taxes so that we can pay our "fair share."

What I object to the most is that the editors openly ignore that a "slim majority" continues to oppose openly gay scout leaders. The Tribune often cites popular opinion in its editorials, when that opinion is in line with its stand.

Finally, I'm shocked that The Tribune is so comfortable siding with BSA corporate sponsors who are pressuring for this "new norm." I guess corporations aren't so bad, after all, as long as they are taking your side.
