Too much to swallow

I was interested to read that between meetings at his local donut shop, Utah Attorney General John Swallow has decided to join the fray to defend "traditional" marriage in an amicus brief supporting the Defense of Marriage Act.

In the news story headlined "Utah joins effort to defend traditional marriage in U.S. Supreme Court" (Tribune, Feb. 2), Swallow says he is doing this as "part of my promise to protect Utah families." I suppose he meant supporting "traditional" Utah families; nonetheless, I am astounded at the priorities of our state's chief legal officer: gay marriage? — definitely illegal; influence peddling, misuse of public office, fraud? — not so much.

It is all a bit much to, well … swallow.
