An early Tuesday morning fire that heavily damaged an Ogden home began in a newly renovated basement apartment, investigators say.

Ogden Deputy Fire Chief Eric Bauman said the blaze at 2687 Jefferson Avenue first was reported at 12:30 a.m. Tuesday.

"Upon arrival, crews reported heavy fire in the basement apartment that had already burned through the floor and impinged on the main story level of the home," Bauman said.

The fire was under control within 20 minutes, but not before it caused an estimated $130,000 in damages.

In addition to Ogden firefighters, crews also responded from neighboring Roy.

Bauman said no injuries were reported and no residents were displaced by the fire.

The cause of the blaze was under investigation, but Bauman noted that the basement apartment had recently been renovated and the owner was planning to show it to renters.
