College football's signing period begins Wednesday, and it appears that BYU coach Bronco Mendenhall will sign at least seven junior college transfers, perhaps the most in his tenure. The Cougars are bringing in more juco guys than normal to offset the effects of the LDS Church lowering the minimum mission age to 18. The thinking is that most of the high school guys that BYU signs tomorrow will go on church missions immediately after high school, and will be returning in 2015 — or about the time this crop of juco transfers runs out of college eligibility. The latest juco star to commit to BYU is De'Ondre Wesley, a 6-foot-7, 300-pound offensive tackle at Diablo Valley College in Pleasant Hill, Calif. Wesley had committed to Arizona State, but the Sun Devils withdrew the offer and he was left scrambling to find a place to play in 2013. The Cougars, who have made rebuilding their offensive line an offseason priority, were there to take him. Wesley gave Utah a soft commitment last September before switching to Arizona State. He made his official campus visit to BYU last weekend and committed in Provo during the visit. Here's the list of players from junior colleges who will sign Wednesday to play for BYU.
