Sen. Mike Lee resigned from the bipartisan Senate working group on immigration because he is against any policy that would provide eventual citizenship ("Lee backs out of immigration compromise," Tribune, Jan. 29). However, he does not present any solution to what our country should do with the 11 million undocumented people living here.
There are only three other options:
1. Hope for "self-deportation," as suggested by Mitt Romney, which won't happen.
2. Forced deportation, which would split families, turn the United States into a police state and eliminate our laborers for agriculture and other businesses.
3. Doing nothing. As Sen. John McCain pointed out, "We cannot continue as a nation with 11 million people residing in the shadows."
It is apparently easy for Lee to continue to vote no on almost every issue, and yet decline to offer real solutions. Lee has a responsibility to provide an alternative.
