Two-time Olympic medalist Katherine Reutter is retiring from the short track competition because of injuries, U.S. Speedskating announced Tuesday.
Reutter, a Salt Lake City resident, won a silver and bronze at the 2010 Winter Games in Vancouver. She skated to a world championship in the 1500 meters in 2011 and was a four-time short track national champion.
"I've been struggling with injuries for quite some time and have some to the realization that my body can no longer withstand the demands of training at this level," Reutter said in a statement.
Reutter plans to return to school to finish her degree in Exercise Physiology and plans to pursue a career teaching others about health and fitness.
Reutter will continue to serve on U.S. Speedskating's board of directors through 2014.
