People who live in this country have reasonable expectations of a society whose environment is safe. Guidelines have been put in place and laws have been enacted to help. Federal agencies have been created to help provide this safer environment.
One such agency is the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. In addition to higher fuel efficiency and lower emissions, its mandate was to reduce serious injuries and deaths safety issues!
The greatest push-back to its regulations came from the auto industry. But the results are in: substantial reductions in emissions, injuries and deaths.
As it was with automobiles years ago, the current debate over regulation of certain types of firearms and ammunition is simply about safety. Although some citizens believe their "rights" are being ignored, it is the right of every citizen to feel secure and safe wherever they are.
One responsibility of the government is to assure the American people that they can continue to have a safe place to raise a family and to enjoy life. Contact your elected representatives and let them know that, (1) safety is the issue, and, (2) you understand that the government has no plan to confiscate unsafe cars or firearms.
