Utah gymnastics: Dabritz bounces back after..

What started out as a bad night for Utah sophomore Georgia Dabritz ended in a good way as she scored a 9.975 on the floor in the Utes' 197.05-192.75 win over Cal.

Earlier, Dabritz fell off the uneven bars and scored just 9.35. She had earned at least 9.875 or higher on the event in the last four meets.

Rather than letting the mistake affect her other events, Dabritz recovered and scored a 9.9 on the balance beam, the event in which she had suffered falls in the previous two meets, then capped off her night with the near-perfect floor routine.

Utah coach Greg Marsden said he wasn't too worried about Dabritz being affected by her fall.

"I think she got a little ahead of herself because she hit the one thing that can be a problem for her," he said. "It was more of a fluke. It was big for her to get back on beam and hit that. She needs to start to rebuild confidence on that event."

Last-minute change on beam pays off

The Utes had freshman Haley Lange penciled into the balance beam lineup to replace Corrie Lothrop, but hours before Saturday's meet decided to go with Kassandra Lopez.

Lopez, who has been hindered by a lower leg strain, scored a 9.8 in her first showing on the beam this season. Lopez changed up her dismount to make it easier on her leg so she can compete, knowing the Utes needed her with Lothrop out.

"It motivated me to do this for my team," she said. "I've been in this position before and the team needs me to be back. That was my goal." —
