College basketball: Berry, Weber State overpower Southern Utah

Ogden • Davion Berry scored 21 points while Scott Bamforth and Jordan Richardson added 15 to lead Weber State to a 75-58 Big Sky Conference victory over Southern Utah on Saturday night at the Dee Events Center.

The Wildcats won their third straight game and improved to 16-5 this season, including 11-2 in the Big Sky.

Jackson Stevenett scored 24 points and Damon Heuir added 18 for Southern Utah, which had a five-game winning streak.

The Thunderbirds slipped to 10-13 overall and 8-6 in the conference under first-year coach Nick Robinson.

Berry scored 11 points as Weber State built a 39-31 halftime lead, thanks to 60 percent shooting.

The Wildcats used a 9-0 run to turn a 12-11 lead into a 21-11 advantage with 12:20 remaining. Berry hit a 3-pointer during the key stretch and Bamforth added another.

After Southern Utah narrowed its deficit to 39-33 in the opening minute of the second half, Weber pulled away.

Over the next 61/2 minutes, the Wildcats outscored the Thunderbirds, 10-3. Berry had six points during the run and Weber's defense forced Southern Utah to miss six straight shots and commit a turnover.

Leading 49-38, the Wildcats iced their second win over the season over SUU by scoring eight straight points. Joel Bolomboy's rebound and reverse dunk with 9:25 bumped Weber's lead to 58-38.
