Love shovels walks | The Salt Lake Tribune

In "Snowy sidewalks" (Forum, Feb. 10), Laurie Bryant is concerned that Salt Lake City may "ease requirements for clearing sidewalks," and she encourages me "to take responsibility for clearing" my sidewalks.

The City Council has no intention of changing the ordinance requiring walks to be cleared. We are committed to a walkable community. We know that the city has work to do in consistency of enforcement and in keeping corners of walks cleared and passable. We will continue to work to do better.

As for my own walks, my family makes our best effort to keep our walks cleared. We shovel as soon as we can, and often during a storm. Everyone in my family shovels. We appreciate our terrific neighbors who often catch our walks when shoveling theirs.

As The Tribune's articles have clearly stated, my family did not receive a ticket for unshoveled walks.
