When reading about the rally outside Utah's "smog-shrouded Capitol building" ("Utah can do better than this, right?" Tribune, Feb. 7), I was struck by the picture of a mother attempting to fit a mask on the face of her 12-week-old baby girl.

I understand the need to protest and have your concerns heard, but I can't believe that a mother would put her child at risk just for a rally.

As a mother of an 8-month-old with a family history of asthma, I cringe every time I have to take her outside in this air. A poster with a picture of your child has just as much impact, and it keeps your child safe.

We need to use common sense in situations like this, and prove that we can do better. It is the smart decisions that help us create a safe and healthy environment for our family, community and state.
