I closely follow the articles concerning our unhealthy air quality and have failed to see any mention of a contributor to the emissions in our valley air: the lack of synchronization of our traffic lights.
Recently, I left the Huntsman Center at the University of Utah at 9:30 p.m. and drove west on 800 South, then turned south on 700 East until 4500 South. There was little traffic, I drove the speed limit and I stopped at every light!
This is not an isolated instance. I am sure that every driver in the valley can tell similar tales every day. Think about the amount of idling that could be avoided if there were better traffic flow. It could significantly help reduce emissions.
