Utah forecast: Clouds, winds and then perhaps snow for N. Utah

Increasing cloud cover and cold temperatures Monday along the Wasatch front were forecast to give way to overcast, windy skies and a growing chance for rain and snow on Tuesday.

Northern Utah's daytime temperatures Tuesday were expected to hover around 40 degrees, significantly warmer than Monday's low-20s. Winds of 10-20 mph were to usher in the precipitation by Tuesday night, the National Weather Service predicted.

Air quality along the Wasatch Front was not great, but it wasn't a "Red" air alert level horrible, either. Salt Lake, Davis, Weber, Utah, Box Elder, Duchesne and Uintah counties were graded "Yellow," or compromised for breathability both Monday and Tuesday. Cache County was the only "Red," or unhealthy graded area, while Tooele earned a "Green," or healthy air quality grade.

The Utah Avalanche Center rated the mountains statewide as being at "moderate" risk for dangerous snowslides Monday and Tuesday.

Southern Utahns, meanwhile, looked for highs around 60 degrees both days, though gusty winds — in the 15-25 mph range — were forecast for late Tuesday afternoon.

Salt Lake City's high temperature for Tuesday was 41 degrees, up from Monday's 37-degree forecast; Ogden looked for 40 and 36 degrees, respectively; Logan 33 and 31; Provo 44 and 40; Wendover 37 and 38; Duchesne 34 and 35; Cedar City 49 and 46; St. George 61 and 59; and Moa 51 and 42 degrees.
