Man arrested for alleged threat to stab Layton Hills Mall shoppers

Layton police have arrested a 20-year-old man whom they say posted on Facebook that he planned to stab shoppers and workers at the Layton Hills Mall.

The man was located at a Layton residence and arrested without incident at about 5 p.m. Monday, Sgt. Jeff Roderick said. He was later booked into the Davis County Jail on suspicion of making a terroristic threat and an outstanding warrant for a probation violation, Roderick said.

No weapon was recovered during the man's arrest and police aren't sure if he ever had one, Roderick said.

It was not clear Monday what prompted the man to post the threat, he said. Layton police have had previous interactions with the man, he added.

Officers swarmed the mall Sunday evening after someone saw the man's post and alerted police. Roderick said the wording of the post suggested the man was headed to the mall to carry out the threat.

After a search, police determined the man was not at the mall Sunday night.
