Sandy teens Tweet plans to skip school, smoke weed

Two 13-year-old girls are in trouble after they apparently Tweeted their plans to skip school so they could go get high.

Sandy police Sgt. Jon Arnold said parents of one of the teens found some marijuana at home and then checked the teen's social media account. The parents found out she was Tweeting about meeting up with friends during school hours to use marijuana, he said.

The parents called the teen's middle school, and officials found the teen's friend had brought marijuana to school that they were going to smoke, he said.

While the first girl's mother was holding her cell phone, Arnold said, an 18-year-old man texted the phone asking if the girls were ready to be picked up.

The mom said go ahead and the man drove to the school to pick up the girls, but instead encountered police who were waiting for him, Arnold said.

He told officers that he thought the girls were older than 13 and that he was picking them up for a friend. The man was cited on suspicion of contributing to the delinquency of a minor, for having tobacco and possessing drug paraphernalia, all misdemeanors.

The two teen girls were arrested on suspicion of possessing a controlled substance.
