Taylorsville •┬áThe Riverton Silverwolves filed into the locker room with little fanfare, a subdued celebration appropriate for a team that had done its work and easily beaten its opponent.

The win, a 58-31 drubbing of Region 1 champion Davis, was never in question. Riverton jumped out to a 12-0 lead thanks to three-point plays from Gerika Ballard and Shelby Richards, and solid post play from senior forward Whitney Saunders.

"It was our best start, our best first half, our best complete game," coach Ron Ence said after the win.

Saunders and Tiena Aufu scored a team-high 12 points on the night.

"Whitney's a solid senior," Ence said of Saunders, who added five rebounds and four assists. "She scraps for everything."

The Silverwolves' defense stifled the Darts, holding Davis to just 10-of-41 shooting on the night. Riverton also forced 17 turnovers.

"I think it all had to do with that good start," Ence said. "It all kind of steamrolled."

Saunders said she and her teammates had seen the stat line from Davis' Jessica Richardson's last game and were determined to shut her down. Richardson finished with nine points, with most of those coming in the final moments of the blowout.

"All of us just felt it," Saunders said. "We just wanted to win and knew that she was a big asset to their team, and we just buckled down on her."

The Darts were bothered by Riverton's man defense and trap, and at times looked hesitant to shoot over the top of the zone.

Riverton guard Mallory Bostic, who scored eight points in the win, said Wednesday night's start was her team's best of the year.

"We've been having trouble in the first quarter," she said. "We're usually a third-quarter team. We don't play to our potential in the first and second quarter. It was just really great to jump up there and not worry about having to play catch-up."

Bostic hit a pair of free throws midway through the fourth to give Riverton a 30-point lead. The Darts chipped away at that margin after Ence put in his reserves.
