AT&T announced it has invested nearly $170 million in its wireless network since 2010 and has made nearly 400 wireless network upgrades in the last year.
Those upgrades include setting up new cell sites, adding additional capacity to allow more simultaneous users, expanding its 4G LTE data network, and boosting wireless coverage and capacity in buildings and at venues such as convention halls and sports arenas.
"We know our customers depend on us for fast, reliable mobile Internet connections at home, work and everywhere in between," Jenifer Robertson, AT&T vice president general manager said in a statement. "Delivering for our Utah customers is a top priority, and our ongoing investment here is designed to deliver a superior mobile Internet experience, encompassing speed, coverage and reliability."
In the future, AT&T officials said they plan to install nationally more than 10,000 macro sites, more than 1,000 distributed antenna systems and more than 40,000 small cells. Additionally, the company plans to have its 4G LTE data network cover more than 300 million people in the U.S. by the end of next year.
