MLS • Marcus Hahnemann frustrated Real Salt Lake all Saturday night and Alex Caskey made RSL pay. After using a flurry of late goals against New England to advance to the finals of the preseason Desert Diamond Cup, Salt Lake failed to score a goal in the championship match, falling 1-0. Forwards Alvaro Saborio and Joao Plata provided opportunities, but Seattle keeper Hahnemann turned them away.

In the second half, Caskey beat RSL goalie Nick Rimando for the game's only goal.

RSL concludes the preseason with the loss. The team next travels to San Jose for a regular-season opener with the Earthquakes on March 3.
