State colleges: BYU women's basketball falls to Gonzaga

Jennifer Hamson spurred the Cougars' women's basketball team in the first half, scoring five points in the first four minutes, but BYU fell behind and lost to Gonzaga 66-55 in Provo. Hamson finished with 20 points, and Haley Steed added 14 points to go with nine assists.

Southern Utah 73, Northern Colorado 57 • The Thunderbirds handed the Bears their first home loss of the season in Greeley, Colo. Northern Colorado was tied atop the Big Sky Conference standings before the T-birds took control in the second half for the win.

Utah Valley 63, Chicago State 55 • The Wolverines clinched a share of the Great West Conference title with their win in Chicago. Four players scored in double digits for UVU, led by Sammie Jensen with 18 points and 21 rebounds.

Colorado Northwestern Community College 57, Snow College 46 • The Badgers lost their season finale in Rangely, Colo.

Salt Lake Community College 76, USU-Eastern 50 • The Bruins finished their regular season with a win in Price. Rachel Morris put up 18 points and 11 rebounds as SLCC outrebounded the Golden Eagles 48-36. SLCC will enter the Region 18 Championships next week as the No. 3 seed.

Dixie State 80, BYU-Hawaii 49 • Three players scored in double digits for the Red Storm, who routed their PacWest opponent in St. George.

Westminster 61, Montana Tech 42 • The Griffins turned a 33-17 halftime lead into a dominating win in Salt Lake City, led by Nicole Yazzie's 18 points, five rebounds and five assists.

Men's basketball

Houston Baptist 73, Utah Valley 63 • The Wolverines lost their Great West battle in Houston despite 26 points from Holton Hunsaker and 19 from Ben Aird.

Southern Utah 73, Cal State Northridge 72 • The Thunderbirds edged out a win in Cedar City, thanks to Jackson Stevenett's 21 points and a game-winning layup with 12 seconds left from Jayson Cheesman.

Snow College 66, Colorado Northwestern CC 63 • The Badgers eked out a conference win in Rangely, Colo.

Salt Lake Community College 74, USU-Eastern 68 • The Bruins ended their regular season by extending their winning streak to seven with a victory in Price, and will head to the Region 18 Championships as the top seed. Sai Tummala, JuWan Buchanan and Tyrell Corbin all scored in double digits in SLCC's Scenic West Athletic Conference win.

Westminster 75, Montana Tech 57 • The Griffins scored 25 points off turnovers and never trailed for their win in Salt Lake City.

BYU-Hawaii 80, Dixie State 75 • The Seasiders broke a halftime tie to beat the Red Storm in St. George.
