Cincinnati • Troy Daniels scored 19 points, and No. 24 Virginia Commonwealth intensified its full-court defense and overcame a 17-point deficit in the second half Saturday for a 75-71 victory over Xavier, which missed its injured point guard down the stretch.

VCU (22-6, 10-3 Atlantic 10) forced 22 turnovers — 12 of them in the second half during the big comeback. Daniels made seven 3-pointers and set a school record with 102 of them this.

Rob Brandenberg added 18 and scored the Rams' final six points.

The Musketeers (15-11, 8-5) played the final 13 minutes, 35 seconds without point guard Dee Davis, who was hit in the forehead and got a cut above his right eye. He left for treatment with Xavier up by five points and never returned.

Davis and Brad Redford finished with 15 points apiece for Xavier, which came into the game as the only team still unbeaten at home in A-10 games.
