As a churchgoer all my life, I sincerely hope that Sandy LDS Stake President Matthew DeVisser's talk in stake conference is not viewed as a positive example by other leaders and speakers ("Mormon stake president gets political at church, laments election results," Tribune, Feb. 22).

Regardless of one's political opinions, Sunday is supposed to be a day of rest from the daily struggles of the world, including the relentlessly divisive political arguments in the press. Church is a refuge from all that.

Yet DeVisser would take that from us, which means that all hope of finding at least one day of peace is lost.

Please, church leaders, ennoble us with the good news of the gospel; leave political strife to the other six days of the week.
