Tucson, Ariz. • Andrew Freter allowed three hits and one run in 51⁄3 innings, freshman Beau Kallas was 2-for-3 with an RBI and triple and Brian Whatcott struck out the final batter with runners on first and second as Utah Valley upset No. 10 Arizona 3-1 in college baseball Tuesday night.
Colby Croft was 3-for-4 and Kai Hatch had a run and an RBI for the Wolverines (4-4), who also beat the Wildcats (7-2) in Orem last season.
North Dakota State 63, Utah Valley 56 • Marshall Bjorklund scored 14 points and grabbed eight rebounds, and North Dakota State rode a late-game run to beat Utah Valley in a nonconference matchup in Fargo, N.D.
Nate Zastrow, TrayVonn Wright and Kory Brown added 10 points apiece for the Bison (21-8), and leading scorer Taylor Braun played 18 scoreless minutes in his first game since breaking a bone in his foot against Oakland in mid-January.
Ben Aird had 25 points and Holton Hunsaker 15 for the Wolverines (13-16), who tied the game at 48 on Aird's free throws with 8:37 to play. Zastrow, a senior playing in his final home game, then made a 3-pointer and two free throws to power a 7-0 run that put the Bison ahead for good.
NDSU is one game behind South Dakota State in the Summit League standings. Both teams close their regular seasons at Nebraska-Omaha this week.
Zach Blair finished second at 1-under par at the 12-team North Ranch Intercollegiate, leading BYU to a second-place finish behind USC in Thousand Oaks, Calif.
Blair was the only golfer to shoot even or better in all three rounds, BYU's Jordan Hammer tied for fourth at 3 over and USC's Yi Keun Chang won the tournament at 2 under.
The Trojans finished at plus 11, followed by BYU (plus 20) and Pepperdine (plus 23).
Women's golf at the three-day UC Irvine Invitational,
Amanda Keith shot 13 over to place 16th, leading BYU to an eighth-place finish out of 12 teams at the UC Irvine Invitational in Santa Ana, Calif. Alex Kim won the tournament at 1 under, leading Gonzaga to a first-place finish at plus 21. UC Irvine was second at plus 43 followed by Long Beach State (plus 50). The Cougars finished at plus 81.
