Acting on a tip, Salt Lake City police arrested an Idaho murder suspect at a downtown Motel 6.
Lt. Shawn Josephson said the arrest took place early Monday afternoon. Gooding, Idaho police had notified officers in Salt Lake City that they had learned Hugo Mendez-Gutierrez, 24, was stopped in the area of 500 South and 300 West.
Officers searching the area located a car linked to Mendez-Gutierrez parked outside the motel, and subsequently identified his room. He was taken into custody without incident.
Mendez-Gutierrez was booked into Salt Lake County Jail on a fugitive from justice warrant. He was being held without bail pending expected extradition proceedings by Idaho authorities.
Mendez-Gutierrez was the subject of a first-degree murder warrant in the stabbing death of 24-year-old Alejandro Perez Lopez. Gooding police also were seeking a second, so far unidentified suspect, also believed to have fled Idaho.
