World Baseball Classic • South Korea wins 3-2 but won't advance because of tiebreaker loss.

Taipei, Taiwan • Jungho Kang hit a two-run homer with two out in the bottom of the eighth inning to give South Korea a 3-2 victory over Taiwan in a World Baseball classic Group B game on Tuesday, but the South Koreans missed out on a spot in the next round because they lost a tiebreaker against the Netherlands.

Taiwan, Korea and the Netherlands all finished the group with 2-1 records. But Taiwan and the Netherlands advanced on a run differential tiebreaker. Australia finished at the bottom of the group with an 0-3 record after a 4-1 loss to the Netherlands on Tuesday. Jonathan Schoop's two-run homer helped the Dutch to victory.

Kang's home run came off former Los Angeles Dodgers reliever Hung-Chin Kuo, who gave up all three runs in the eighth.

Dai-Kang Yang had two singles for Taiwan and drove in a run. Earlier Tuesday, Ray Chang drove in two runs and China rallied with five runs in the bottom of the eighth to beat Brazil 5-2 in Group A in Fukuoka, Japan.

Brazil led 2-0 in the eighth but China scored its first run on a bases-loaded walk before Chang hit a soft fly ball to left field that scored two and gave the Chinese a 3-2 lead.

Dickey, Vogelsong, Holland will start

Team USA manager Joe Torre firmed up his starting pitching for the first round of the World Baseball Classic on Tuesday, slating R.A. Dickey against Mexico, Ryan Vogelsong against Italy and Derek Holland against Canada.

Torre had already said Dickey would pitch the opener in Pool D on Friday night, but he wanted to see how Vogelsong came out of a spring appearance for the Giants before finalizing the rest.

Vogelsong will start Saturday against Italy. That allows Holland, a left-hander, to face a Canadian lineup stocked with left-handed hitters on Sunday.

Torre, an MLB executive vice president, said he'll err on the side of caution when it comes to pitch counts.

• Yankees slugger Mark Teixeira was scratched from the U.S. lineup for Tuesday's exhibition game against the Chicago White Sox with a sore right forearm.

The injury is not considered serious.

The U.S. was preparing for its opener in the World Baseball Classic on Friday night against Mexico by taking on the White Sox at Camelback Ranch.
