Salt Lakers' film screening at Hollywood 'Filmapalooza'

A group of Salt Lake City filmmakers are being rewarded for a good weekend's work with some recognition in Hollywood.

The filmmaking team known as Al Kessler Centennial Squadron, which won the Salt Lake City edition of the 48 Hour Film Project, will see its film "Tic" screened at the Filmapalooza Film Festival — which runs today through Sunday at the historic Chinese Theatre in Hollywood.

The film is one of 4,000 made in 115 countries as part of the 2012 competition.

"Tic" was filmed in 48 hours in the George Thomas Building, the University of Utah building that was the old home of the Natural History Museum of Utah. The film featured museum employees, and the filmmakers took their name from the museum's bigget fan, Al Kessler, who celebrated his 100th birthday the week of the competition.

The members of Al Kessler Centennial Squadrom are: Connor Rickman, Colin McDermott, Alejandro Stepenberg, Keir Schmidt, Sarah McLoney and Stuart Ford. All will attend Filmapalooza, the 11th annual screening and awards ceremony for the 48 Hour Film Project. The top 12 films at Filmapalooza, to be announced Sunday, will screen in the Short Film Corner at the Cannes Film Festival.
