Valley rain and mountain snow were on northern Utah's weather menu to wind up the week, while the state's southern reaches looked for a windy but warm forecast seasoned with intermittent rain showers.
High temperatures Friday for the Wasatch Front were predicted to be in the mid-40s, about the same as Thursday's forecast. Utah's Dixie, meanwhile, looked for highs in the mid-50s, down a few degrees from Thursday, with winds in the 10-25 mph range.
Thursday began with a Winter Weather Advisory in effect until noon for the Wasatch Mountains north of Interstate 80 to the Idaho border. Snowfall of 5-9 inches was expected at higher elevations, with 1-4 inches anticipated for lower elevations.
Atmospheric stirring kept the state's breathability in the "Green," or healthy range, according to the Utah Division of Air Quality's grades going into the weekend.
Avalanche danger, however, remained elevated. The Utah Avalanche Center rated the Uintas at "considerable" risk for dangerous backcountry snow slides, while the rest of the state's mountains rated "moderate" grades.
Salt Lake City's high on Friday was pegged at 45, down from Thursday's forecast for 47 degrees; Ogden looked for 43-degree readings both days; Provo 46 and 50; Logan 37 and 36; Wendover 43s; Duchesne 43s; Cedar City 44 and 55; St. George 55 and 67; and Moab 53 and 65 degrees.
