U.S. Bank to

open branch

in S. Jordan

U.S. Bank will open a branch inside the Walmart store located at 3590 W. South Jordan Parkway on Wednesday. A grand opening celebration will take place from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., with a ribbon cutting ceremony at 3:30 p.m.

Recovery slow

after Japan's

quake, tsunami

There is growing dissatisfaction in Japan with the slow pace of recovery after the earthquake and tsunami that left nearly 19,000 people dead or missing two years ago. Japan has struggled to rebuild communities and clean up radiation from the 2011 meltdown of the Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear plant.

Illinois settles

SEC charges

of bond fraud

Federal authorities said Illinois has agreed to settle a securities fraud charge that accused the state of misleading bond investors about the financial health of its public employee pension systems, now $96.7 billion short of what's needed to cover promised retirement benefits. The state settled the charges without paying a penalty.

New BlackBerry

coming to U.S.

on March 22

BlackBerry-maker Research In Motion (RIM) will launch its new smartphone in the U.S. with AT&T on March 22. The release will come several weeks after RIM launched the much-delayed devices elsewhere. AT&T said the Z10 will be available for $199.99 with a two-year contract. Sales of the device began in the U.K. and Canada in January.
