In "Adoption bill killed on Gayle Ruzicka's questionable premise" (Tribune, March 13), Paul Rolly cites research from the American Adoption Congress that indicates that having adoptions be open results in a lower rate of abortion. HB148 would have made this option for birth mothers easier by making adoptions open unless the birth mother fills out the paperwork to make it closed.
In her fervor and typically misguided approach to micromanaging Utah's moral values, Utah Eagle Forum leader Gayle Ruzicka force-fed our Legislature inaccurate information that making open adoptions easier would encourage more abortions, resulting in the bill's death.
Ignorance is not always bliss.
