Utah cyclist killed by second of two passing TRAX trains

A bicyclist who was killed in a TRAX accident Wednesday ventured onto the tracks when two trains were passing but apparently only saw one of them, according to police.

Brandon G. Robinson, 27, died when he was hit by a train about 4:57 p.m. in Millcreek at 4100 South and about 200 West. The train was traveling south when Robinson headed east into its path.

Unified Police Lt. Justin Hoyal said Thursday that Robinson apparently saw one train pass before riding onto the tracks. But a second train, which Robinson evidently didn't see, was approaching from the opposite direction.

In that area, the train would have been going between 45 and 55 mph, said UTA Lt. Alex Blauer.

Robinson was dead at the scene.

Hoyals said the barricade arms were down and the lights were flashing when Robinson crossed into the train's path. Hoyal added that authorities used Robinson's fingerprints to identify him.
