Utah Jazz: Hayward, Jazz rally past Memphis, 90-84

Gordon Hayward scored 17 points and hit a pair of three-point shots in the final minutes, leading the Jazz to a 90-84 victory over Memphis at EnergySolutions Arena.

The Jazz started slowly, on both ends of the floor.

Utah missed its first five shots. For Memphis, Zach Randolph scored seven points in the opening five minutes as the Grizzlies built an 11-3 lead.

It was still 15-7 when Al Jefferson scored six points and Hayward added a three-pointer. The Jazz converted seven of their last nine possessions and used an 11-2 run to take a 22-21 lead.

Memphis regained a 27-22 lead early in the second quarter before the Jazz started going inside, getting fouled and making free throws.

Utah's first eight points came from the line and it built a 39-33 lead with 5:05 left in the half when Marvin Williams buried a pair of free throws.

Suddenly, however, the Jazz stop defending. The Grizzlies convert eight of their last nine possessions and take a 50-45 halftime lead.

The Jazz dominated the third quarter against weary-looking Memphis, which was playing back-to-back and its fourth game in five nights.

Utah opened on a 10-1 run and built a 69-59 lead when the Grizzlies failed to score a basket in the final 5:35.

In the fourth quarter, Memphis scored six straight points and eventually got as close as 75-73. But the Jazz counter with a 12-3 run, capped by Hayward's three-pointer with 2:56 left.

Hayward started against the Grizzlies, as coach Tyrone Corbon changed his line-up after eight losses in the previous 10 games.
