A single-engine plane crashed at the Skypark Airport in Woods Cross early Monday afternoon but the pilot escaped unscathed.
The plane crashed about 1:15 p.m. while it was coming in for a landing, according to South Davis Metro deputy fire chief Jeff Bassett. The 66-year-old pilot, the only person aboard, walked away from the crash uninjured. A small fire erupted as a result of the accident but was quickly put out with a fire extinguisher.
Bassett said the wind at the airport was gusting but investigators will make the ultimate determination about what caused the crash. Local police and the Federal Aviation Administration are responding to conduct an investigation.
Bassett did not have information about the make and model of the aircraft, but described it as only big enough to hold one or two people. He also said it was "really beat up" after the crash, with a severed wing and an engine that had been torn from the rest of the wreckage.
