A new Enduro Cup series, which challenges mountain bike riders to race through timed stretches of a difficult course, will make its debut May 4 in Moab at the Magnificent 7 trail area.

The three-race series was created by cyclocross and enduro racer Ali Goulet and Mountain Sports International, a Salt Lake City-based event marketing agency. The event typically requires competitors to ride three to five difficult, usually descending, stretches of terrain. The lowest cumulative total time wins, said Mountain Sports spokeswoman Jessica Kunzer.

"We'll make sure the course layout leaves you grinning with your legs stinging," Goulet quipped.

Popular primarily in Europe, an enduro event was staged last summer at Canyons Resort outside of Park City. Canyons will play host to the second event of this year's Enduro Cup series, although a date has not been scheduled. The location and date of the third race also have not been determined, Kunzer said.

Registration costs $80. It may be done online at http://endurocup.athlete360.com. Additional information is available at endurocupmtb.com or on Facebook at www.facebook.com/EncuroCupMTB.
