It is interesting that Sen. Todd Weiler, R-Woods Cross, thinks there is a problem with the state's "chief law enforcement officer asking people for money" to run for office ("Senator wants Utah to look at appointing attorney general," Tribune, March 19). He seems to believe that cash donations by special interests will have an influence on our attorney general.
The AG's job is just to enforce the laws; Weiler's and our other representatives' job is to write the laws. It's equally reprehensible for them to accept donations that may influence their lawmaking.
Our state Legislature certainly seems to be beholden to the deepest pockets. As my mother would say, "That is the pot calling the kettle black."
