A 39-year-old motorcyclist died early Wednesday morning from injuries he suffered during a crash in Layton.
Layton police Lt. Shawn Horton said that Jon Paul Painter, of West Weber, was traveling eastbound on Hill Field Road, approaching the southbound on-ramp to Interstate 15, when a car made a left turn in front of him late Tuesday night.
Horton said Painter, who was not wearing a helmet, appeared to have tried to lay down his motorcycle to avoid the collision, but lost control. The bike did not strike the car, Horton said, but Painter was nonetheless critically injured in the crash.
Painter later was pronounced dead at McKay-Dee Hospital Center in Ogden.
The car's driver, a 25-year-old Centerville man, was not cited at the scene. Horton said the investigation was ongoing.
Horton said there was no preliminary indication that either the victim or the driver was impaired.
