In "Gun security" (Forum, March 23), Les Christensen claimed that any gun regulation takes away the tools he needs to protect his family and himself. How much longer do educated people have to put up with this pig manure dished out by the National Rifle Association's fantasy world?

Unless Christensen wants to defend his right to obtain machine guns, rocket grenade launchers, tanks and even land mines — where does it end?

Tactical nukes can't be far behind; we are talking about our God-given right to acquire a better weapon than our neighbor. This is about protecting our defenseless children and securing our home — whatever it takes, right? Wrong! In a civilized society, there are limits.

The limits begin with facts, beginning with the fact that regulation does not mean removal of anyone's right to own a gun to protect themselves or their family. It means regulating your choice of weapons.

Christensen argues that since criminals will break the law and obtain assault weapons, everyone should have access to them. Criminals do break laws (definition of criminal); laws are still written despite this fact.

Let's keep the conversation real, and quit hiding behind the children.
