BYU racquetball team places second at nationals

The BYU racquetball team took second place overall at the 2013 USA Racquetball National Collegiate Championships last weekend in Tempe, Ariz. Oregon State won the overall championship.

Racquetball is a club sport at BYU, much like rugby and lacrosse, and is coached by Paul Snyder.

The BYU men took second place and the BYU women took third in the competition at Arizona State University.

The Cougars' national champions were Kristin Hatch at No. 5 singles and Hatch and Lisa Kuttler at No. 3 doubles.

In mens' singles play, BYU's Cole Burr, Patrick Harris, Bryson Renouard, Brian Zundel, Braden Hess and Lincoln Cluff all claimed third-place medals in mens' single 1 through 6, respectively.

In womens' singles, BYU's Liza Blank was second at No. 1 singles, JaLeen Rogers was fourth at No. 2, Mary Culverwell was third at No. 3, Amy Collyer was third at No. 4 and Kuttler was second at No. 6.

The team of Blank and Culverwell placed fourth at No. 1 doubles, while the team of Rogers and Collyer was third at No. 2 doubles.

In mens' doubles, Burr and Zundel were third at No. 1, Harris and Hess were second at No. 2 and Renouard and Cluff were second at No. 3.
