State colleges: Utah tops BYU in rivalry baseball game

State colleges • BYU rallies in 9th, but Utah wins in 10th inning.

The Cougars stretched the game to 10 innings, but the Utes came out on top in the rivalry baseball game, winning 5-4 in Salt Lake City. After trailing 1-0 for most of the game, BYU poured in four runs in the top ninth inning to make a late rally and take a 4-1 lead. But the Utes also rallied in the ninth. Cory Hunt, who went 4 for 4 on the night, hit a triple to knock in the game-tying run. Utah's TJ Bennett hit a walk-off single in the 10th.

Softball

Boise State 5-12, Southern Utah 3-1 • The Thunderbirds lost both games in their home opener in Cedar City, with a run-shortened blowout in the second game.

Weber State 7-12, Great Falls 0-2 • The Wildcats dominated their doubleheader in Ogden, shutting out the Argos in the first game. Freshman Brooke Ford led the way with four hits and a career-high seven RBIs.

Utah Valley 4, Utah 1 • Amanda Robinson helped the Wolverines hand Utah a loss in its home opener in Salt Lake City, The first baseman went 2 for 3 with two RBIs.

Men's lacrosse

Westminster 19, Saint Mary's 4 • In Salt Lake City, the Griffins won their third straight game. Adam Marfice led with a game-high six points and one assist.

Men's golf

The University of Utah finished 12th at the Duck Invitational in Eugene, Ore.
