St. George police were looking Thursday afternoon for a man who held up a bank in the southwestern Utah city.

Police Sgt. Sam Despain said the man, described as in his 50s to 60s, walked into the State Bank of Southern Utah at 395 E. St. George Boulevard about 9:40 a.m. He handed a note to a teller demanding money, though no weapon was shown or direct threats made.

Moments later, the man — wearing a light blue or gray shirt, navy blue cap and with gray beard stubble and gray hair — left on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash.

During the ensuing, unsuccessful search of the area for the suspect, East Elementary School near 700 East was locked down for a short time.

Anyone with information on this case is asked to call the St. George Police Department at 435-627-4300.
