St. Louis • The Cardinals say that English soccer teams Chelsea and Manchester City will play an exhibition game May 23 at Busch Stadium.

It will be the first professional sporting event other than baseball to be held in the ballpark, which opened in 2006.

Cardinals president Bill DeWitt III said Friday the Cardinals "look forward to showcasing the versatility" of their park in a game with "some of the best soccer players in the world."

Manchester City also played in North America two years ago, before going on to win the Premier League in 2012. Chelsea won the European Champions League last year.
