Police don't know what caused Logan man to fall into river.

A 64-year-old Logan man was fishing when he fell in a river and died Friday, though police still don't know what caused the accident.

A passerby discovered the man's body Friday about 10:20 a.m. The body was facedown in the river near 843 South and 100 West. Police had not released the man's name Saturday.

Logan Police Chief Gary Jensen said Saturday that officers had located the man's fishing gear upstream, leading them to conclude that the death was an accident. But Jensen did not know what might have led the man to fall into the river. He added that the water was not flowing quickly at the spot where officers found the gear.

"The river is not high right now by any means," Jensen said.

Jensen said authorities would perform an autopsy to determine if the man had a medical condition that could have been a factor in the incident.

The body was discovered near a popular footbridge, Jensen added.
