Re "Wyoming may become a new 'home of Utah lottery'" (Tribune, March 21):

OK, Utah, it's time. Let's join the nationwide Powerball lottery.

Wyoming just passed a bill to join, which means that Utahns can now literally leave the state in any direction and find a lottery or casino, or both. That is money leaving the state that we will never get back.

The Utah Foundation wants to raise taxes to help fund education and transportation. A lottery could accomplish much of that without forcing it on every taxpayer.

Yes, there is the possibility that some people will spend too much on tickets, but those same people are already taking their money to places like Wendover, Nev., and Malad, Idaho.

Let's join the 21st century and allow the citizens of this state to voluntarily add to the government's coffers.
