A 92-old-year Moab man was killed Monday morning when his pickup hit a parked flatbed trailer.

The Utah Highway Patrol said Bernard A. Broughton died after his Ford truck struck the empty flatbed parked on the 1000 block of Moab's Main Street about 11 a.m.

Broughton was northbound when he drifted to the shoulder of the road. After his truck hit the flatbed, it began to roll and sideswiped the truck attached to the flatbed before coming to a stop on its side next to another truck parked on the shoulder. Neither of the parked vehicles was occupied at the time.

Broughton was not wearing a seat belt and was partially ejected. He was dead at the scene, according to UHP.

An investigation into the accident is continuing, including whether Broughton might have had a medical issue, or was talking on a phone at the time of the crash.
