Congress should readily approve President Barack Obama's proposed project to map the brain ("Obama proposes $100M for brain mapping project," Tribune, April 3). This sort of public endeavour is what makes America great from the Erie Canal to the Transcontinental Railroad to the Manhattan Project to putting a human on the moon.
If America stops thinking big and pushing back the curtains of ignorance, it will stop being a great country. It will not only lose its competitive edge, it will lose its soul.
America is largess of soul and spirit, not smallness. It is optimism and confidence in the future.
I hope Utah's members of Congress support the BRAIN Initiative.
