AT&T expands faster data network in Utah

AT&T has expanded its high-speed 4G data network to 16 new areas in Salt Lake and Utah counties.

The carrier's 4G LTE network is a faster data network for mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets that is up to 10 times speedier than the older 3G data network. The system enables users to stream video and music, and surf the Internet, from mobile devices.

The service has been expanded into areas in American Fork, Spanish Fork, West Valley City, West Jordan, South Jordan, Riverton, Herriman, Draper, Sandy, Cottonwood Heights, Lehi, Alpine, Saratoga Springs, Eagle Mountain, Springville and Payson.

AT&T launched its 4G LTE service in Utah County in November 2012 and then in Salt Lake City the following month. The carrier has invested nearly $170 million in its wireless and wireline networks in Utah in the past two years, according to the company.

In order to use the 4G LTE service, the user must have a compatible smartphone or tablet, which includes the iPhone, iPad and the Samsung Galaxy S 3.
