S. Salt Lake police seek two failed ATM burglars

South Salt Lake police have released images from a bank's Automatic Teller Machine security camera in hopes someone will recognize the suspects and help detectives bring them to justice.

South Salt Lake police spokesman Gary Keller said two men attempted to break into the ATM at Zions Bank, 3900 South 700 East, about 12:30 a.m. Easter Sunday. They used a steel cable in their unsuccessful bid to crack the machine and steal its cash before driving away in an older-model white Ford pickup truck.

A passerby noticed the damaged ATM about 4 a.m. and called 911. Keller said Wednesday that the failed break-in caused an estimated $1,000 in damage to the machine.

The surveillance images show that the suspects' vehicle had a large white tool box in its bed. The pickup also sported three faded blue or light purple stripes on its side, and the right rear wheel panel appears to be rusted out.

Keller said the vehicle's license plate was covered with a strip of cardboard.

One suspect is described as a white male of medium build, wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt and baggy shorts, black athletic shoes, a wedding ring and a backwards baseball cap. His face was covered by a blue bandana.

The second suspect was seated in the pickup's passenger seat with only his arm visible, Keller said.
