Utah forecast: Sunblock today, umbrellas tomorrow

Northern Utah's sunny spring weather is due for a break with the forecast Friday taking a decidedly wet turn.

Thursday's breezy, partly cloudy skies and high temperatures in the mid-70s along the Wasatch Front were to give way Friday to morning rain showers and afternoon thunderstorms. Highs on Friday were expected to retreat into the low-60s.

However, southern Utah was expected to see highs Friday around 80 degrees, down only a few degrees from Thursday's forecast. Partly cloudy skies and winds of 10-20 mph were to prevail, but no precipitation was predicted.

The Utah Avalanche Center downgraded the risk for dangerous mountain backcountry snow slides to "low" for Friday, while the Utah Division of Air Quality rated breathability statewide as "Green," or healthy.

Salt Lake City's high temperature Friday was pegged at 62, down from Thursday's 74-degree forecast; Ogden looked for 61 and 71 degrees, respectively; Provo 63 and 75; Logan 57 and 68; Wendover 61 and 70; Duchesne 64 and 68; Cedar City 68 and 72; St. George 81 and 84; and Moab 78 and 75 degrees.
