Santa Clara, Calif. • Desmond Poulson pitched his third complete game of the season, and Jacob Hannemann hit a two-run homer in the seventh inning to lift BYU over Santa Clara 3-1 in West Coast Conference baseball Thursday night.

Poulson struck out eight to improve to 4-0 this season.

"Coach told me I just have to spot up and they didn't have any lefties, so I made sure my slider was where I needed it to be," Poulson said. "They didn't capitalize on my mistakes tonight except one. I saw some weird swinging on balls that were high, so I knew something was up."

Hannemann was 3-for-4, with a double, triple and home run.

"He's a phenomenal athlete, one of those kind of guys that come along every seven to nine years," BYU coach Mike Littlewood said about Hannemann.

Kelton Caldwell was 2-for-4 with a triple for the Cougars (15-14, 3-4 WCC), which has won four of its past five games.

Dixie State 15, Holy Names 3 • In Saint George, Mitch hit his second grand slam of the season, D.J. Andrade was 4-for-5 and Kevin Kline had three RBIs as the Red Storm cranked out 15 hits to improve to 21-8 overall and 14-7 in the Pacific West Conference.
