Police seek knife-wielding robber of Taylorsville store

Police are searching for a knife-wielding suspect who roughed up a Taylorsville convenience store clerk when he didn't hand over what the robber thought was enough cash.

Unified Police Department officers and paramedics responded to a 911 call from the Conoco station at 4800 South and Redwood Road just before 2 a.m. Friday.

The night clerk there told them that the suspect, described as a Latino in his 40s, about 5-foot-7, 220 pounds and wearing all black clothing, had come in, approached the clerk and demanded money. The suspect grabbed cash from the till but was not satisfied with his take.

When the man pulled a knife, the clerk and the suspect scuffled and the clerk was punched in the face before the robber grabbed more cash and ran out of the store, said UPD Lt. Justin Hoyal.

UPD officers, aided by police dogs, searched the area but could not find the suspect.

The clerk's injuries were minor and treated at the scene by paramedics.
